The best place to buy fabrics in New York. Special thank you to Luis who is extremely gracious, helpful and kind. His attitude made all the difference- he was helpful from picking the fabrics to ordering them and even shipping them. Will come back again and will recommend. THANK YOU!

I had to write this review from my last experience at B&J cuz the bad attitude of the front desk honestly scared me for years? I was a fashion design student and always bought a lot of fabrics there. One time I found a fabric I really loved and asked front desk lady if they have more. She said no so I asked if she knows places that also sell this fabric. She got really angry at me and literally yelled “there’s absolutely no way I’m going to tell you where we source the fabric!” I understand she might think I’m a competitor? But considering the amount of money I spent there and how young I was, honestly felt like she just took it out on me. I did not deserve that.

B & J is by far the highest end fabric shop in the Garment District- you can find the most exquisite fabrics unavailable elsewhere . It’s also a much more pleasant and calm shopping experience than Mood Fabrics. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful with projects and placing orders for international fabrics. They’re great to work with!

Very nice fabrics and easy to browse. Organized and not overwhelming like some fabric stores.
The staff are pretty unapproachable and I had a hard time getting their attention to cut fabric for me. They almost seemed to be deliberately ignoring me.

If you’re not used to shopping for fabrics in person, this place is intimidating because of the staff. Choose your samples off the racks and take them to an employee. Ask them direct if they can get you the yardage you need. They’ll take the samples and give you the fabric, which you can then take to the front desk for payment.

Absolutely disgusted with the way I was treated at B&J. Its clear they are happy to help non black customers with any questions, when I asked for help I was ignored and wrote off, with the one exception of a worker named Diego who helped me and was absolutely a pleasure to work with in the short time he helped me with my purchase. Very disheartening to have experienced that.

I visited B & J on my last trip to the city. I perused their selection of fabrics merely because I had wondered what the poor were doing for home decorator fabrics.

Unfortunately, a very friendly shop attendant approached me and that ruined everything. I wasn't there to associate myself with the Hoi Polloi.

I did find a serviceable Italian silk brocade in bonze, which I'll use to have a doggy bed made, so overall a successful detour for us.
